A Firm Foundation – Day 1: Passing on the Faith with Generosity
Together we can build a foundation of spiritual growth for the next generation.
Date: Sunday, October 5, 2025
Psalm 78:1–7 (NIV); 2 Corinthians 9:6–8 (NIV)
Reflection
Building a firm foundation for the future means sharing stories of God’s faithfulness and practicing generosity. Your life and giving shape the spiritual legacy of the church.
God’s people have always been called to pass on the story of His faithfulness. Psalm 78 reminds us that each generation has the responsibility to share God’s mighty works so that “the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born.” Our giving is not just financial—it’s about sowing seeds of faith, love, and truth that will continue to bear fruit long after us.
When Paul teaches in 2 Corinthians 9, he shows that generosity reflects God’s character and multiplies blessings. Generosity is both a personal act of devotion and a communal act of building. Together, we build a foundation that outlasts us, ensuring that God’s story continues to echo in the lives of children, youth, and future disciples.
Reflection Prompts
How long have you been part of San Clemente Pres and who were some of the people that influenced you when you first started attending here?
How have your personal faith stories influenced someone younger or new to the church?
Who did this for you when you were younger? Take a moment and write a note of thanks to this person, even if you have no way of delivering it.
Where do you sense God inviting you to give generously, financially or otherwise?
How can you model joyful generosity to others in your sphere of influence?
Family Devotional
We can pass on our faith by sharing our stories and giving joyfully to God.
What’s something God has done for our family that we can remember and celebrate?
Share a brief story from your own life with your children about how you have found joy in giving.
If you have younger children, ask about their plans for their piggy bank and their goal for what they would like to give. What plans can you make together to achieve their goal?
If you have older children, ask about their thoughts on giving. Do they think it’s important? Why or why not?
How might you encourage them to participate in A Firm Foundation and set a giving goal?
Suggested Activities This Week
Family Faith Timeline: On a big sheet of paper, draw a line and mark important moments when God worked in your family’s life. Let kids add pictures or stickers.
Family Gratitude Journal: Each night for a week, write down one thing God did for your family that day. At the end, thank God for His faithfulness together.
Closing Prayer
God, thank you for the people in our lives that have helped us know you better and have passed along their faith. Help us to be the link in the chain of faith to the next generation and pass our faith along. Would you be so at work in the lives of people in our church that everyone would participate in A Firm Foundation and feel connected to San Clemente Pres. and the work you are doing here. Amen.
